Teacher Classroom Supply Monetary Donations - Goal: $9,000
Teacher Classroom Supply Monetary Donations - Goal: $9,000
Teacher Classroom Supply Fund
In the last year, we carefully looked at what teachers needed for their classes and how much they were spending on it.
While they receive a $100 stipend at the beginning of the school year for classroom supplies not typically covered in student donations, they spent a collective $6,000 on supplies. That’s nearly $300 per teacher and $50 - $150 per other staff member... and many shared that it’s often more than this.
Can you imagine it being expected that you spend your own paycheck on the supplies needed to do your job? Probably not. And many of us might quit!
Starting this school year, Horizon is also adding an additional three 5th grade teachers. (Horizon previously only went through 4th grade.) Because of this, we've increased our monetary donation goal to $9,000 to ensure there is enough to support 5th grade teachers.
Until the district level is able to adequately supply staff with what they need to effectively support students - we seek support from businesses and individuals who want to help hard working teachers with supplies.

The FAQ's
Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes! All sponsorships and donations made to the Horizon Organization of Parents and Staff are tax deductible. You are welcome to request a receipt at any time or you may use our Tax ID when filing your annual taxes: 85-1450792.
How do you distribute these funds?
Teachers and staff do not receive access to these funds directly. They are asked to send the Horizon Organization of Parents and Staff a request for items that they would like to be purchased for their classroom. Each grade level teacher is given a budget amount for the year of $300, and other staff, depending on their role, receive between $50 and $150. When we receive a request for supply items, we review to ensure that it is something that will clearly benefit students or their classroom - and then typically purchase via Amazon - since we have found that this is the easiest way to get staff the exact items they would like and shipped in a quick and timely manner.
Can I sponsor a specific grade level or teacher?
While we don't currently have an option online that allows you to donate toward a specific teacher or grade level, you are more than welcome to reach out to us via our email: hops.holt@gmail.com and let us know that you'd like your donation to be designated toward a specific area. We are happy to honor your requests within reason!
What happens if you don't raise enough money to cover all supply costs?
In a situation where the organization didn't raise enough to adequately cover the supply budgets for staff, the Board would review our annual budget and likely cut the amount allocated to each staff member in order to stay fiscally responsible.
Do you report back to donors on how the funds are used?
Absolutely. We want to ensure that you know what staff members are using funds for and how they are being distributed. An easy way to see what kinds of things staff are purchasing with their supply budgets is to take a look at our Annual Report. We keep detailed records of what staff needed throughout the year, and ensure that it is documented in our Annual Report for donors to see. If you ever have specific questions about the supply budgets, don't hesitate to reach out to us! We'd be happy to answer any questions you have.
What if you raise more money than you need for staff supplies?
In the case that we raised more money than needed for that school year to ensure all staff can purchase needed supplies, the Board and Treasurer would put the additional funds aside as the supply fund for the following school year.
